15. DNS server for a very small LAN

A telephone book allows you to look up an individual person by name and get their telephone number, their unique identifier on the telephone system's network.
DNS allows you to look up individual server by name and get its IP address, its unique identifier on the Internet.

You may have your personal "telephone book" in /etc/hosts.
Just edit this file and add the names of your computers IPs in the way


192.168.1.12 webserver.home webserver

Save the file, and then in your browser you just type http://webserver or
http://webserver.home and get access to server.
You have to edit all the hosts file of every computer so everyone uses the same names for every computer.


Easy, right????
